What is the Theology of the Body?
Given as a series of talks by Pope John Paul II, the Theology of the Body is a profound reflection on the biblical meaning of love. It emphasizes our dignity as men and women, the goodness of our bodies and sexuality and our call to live in the fullness of freedom and joy. Through the mystery of the “body,” we can come to know our particular call to image God’s love in the world.
Wide in its scope, at the same time both modern and ancient, Theology of the Body addresses the deepest questions of life. It proposes a vision of love for our times and experiences. Rich, poetic and achingly beautiful, it illuminates the deepest mysteries of life and proposes a profound meaning to human love in the divine plan.

I am not Catholic. Is it for me?
Like a great work of art, the Theology of the Body puts a finger on the pulse of our universal aches and longings— the universal questions of our humanity. These reflections on human existence, and the art that illuminates them, are not just Catholics, but for everyone.
I’ve been to Christopher West’s workshops already, is there something new in it for me?
Yes! This is something new! Those who are familiar with Christopher West’s presentation of the Theology of the Body will be thrilled to take in this new material, presented in an atmosphere of art and culture like never before. Those themes you’ve come to know through West will now come alive through music, visual art and live performance.
Why Art?
As Pope John Paul II said in his Letter to Artists:
Art has the capacity to take one or other facet of the message and translate it into colors shapes and sounds which nourish the intuition of those who look or listen. It does so without emptying the message of its transcendent value or mystery…
Are Fill These Hearts Events Suitable For Teens?
We believe that Fill These Hearts: God, Sex and the Universal Longing, as a presentation of the Theology of the Body, can certainly be a part of a young person’s formation in a healthy and mature understanding of human sexuality. There is no material explored or presented in these events that would be inappropriate for the average teen.
However, you as a parent are in the best position to make the call for your particular child. This event is not primarily focused toward teens and is not a “teen chastity” talk. For an excellent resource created specifically for youth, we refer you to Theology of the Body for Teens by Brian Butler, Jason & Crystalina Everett with forward by Christopher West.
